a. 4.3.1 Priorities
a) 4.5.3 I must respect the proprietary nature of the information of others.
a. To preserve this standard, the HCI consultant must respect the proprietary nature of the information in relation to her work. This does not only include her obligation regarding this to the company, but also to outside or rival companies. To preserve respect to the other company, she must then inform Company A about the issue. But this does not mean that she can provide information to Company B about the matter, because she must also preserve the contract.
b) 4.5.5 I must advise my client or employer of any potential conflicts of interest between my assignment and legal or other accepted community requirements.
a. The HCI consultant must let Company A know about the proprietary issue through a report or a meeting. Because it is a public knowledge and by law that copying patent or proprietary material or software is illegal, taking part of the said project would mean that she has participated and gave permission on illegal acts and means. If Company A still insists on continuing with the evaluation of the software knowing about the conflict, then she must not continue this work.
c) 4.5.6 I must advise my clients and employers as soon as possible of any conflicts of interest or conscientious objections which face me in connection with my work.
a. The HCI consultant must also inform the client of her stand on the matter. This way, she can properly make a decision as to what to do next according to the client’s decision regarding the issue.
b. 4.3.2 Competence
a) 4.6.3 I must make myself aware of relevant standards, and act accordingly.
a. The HCI consultant must study first the relevant standards applicable to the situation, and should act according to it. She knows that what Company A did was illegal, and she should take actions that would be ethical like informing her client about the matter.
c. 4.3.3 Honesty
a) 4.7.3 I must give opinions which are as far as possible unbiased and objective.
a. She should also state her stand and give opinions about the issue in a way that it is unbiased, which means that she should base it not because she favors either Company A or B, but according to what the law and standards dictate (Objective).
